Sovol SV08: the new CoreXY 3D printer

This post is also available in: Français Deutsch

Sovol 3D is undoubtedly one of my favorite brands in 3D printing, this manufacturer always listens to its users and designs robust and very reliable machines.
The Sovol SV08 has just been added to their product catalog, and it’s a real eye-opener! Dreaming of a CoreXY printer based on the pre-assembled Voron 2.4 concept? Sovol has done it!

3D printing is constantly evolving, and the most popular machines at the moment are clearly CoreXY machines. Sovol 3D has followed this trend, leveraging the Voron project to design the SV08. Designed for hobbyists and professionals alike, this 3D printer offers impressive performance, remarkable ease of use and advanced features that set it apart from its competitors.

Robust, innovative design (Voron design)

The Sovol SV08 boasts a robust design with a solid metal frame, guaranteeing stability and durability. This choice of materials ensures vibration-free printing, for precise, detailed results. What’s more, its large print volume of 350 x 350 x 345 mm offers unprecedented creative freedom, enabling large-scale projects to be realized without compromise.

SV08 advanced technical features

Let’s look at the major features of the new SV08

CoreXY technology: the SV08 uses CoreXY kinematics to reduce moving mass and improve motion control. This translates into a maximum acceleration of 40,000 mm/s² and a print speed of 700 mm/s, making prints fast and accurate.

Pre-assembled and open source: Delivered pre-assembled, the Sovol SV08 is ready to use in just one hour, simplifying installation for beginners. What’s more, it’s open source, giving users the opportunity to modify and enhance their printer to suit their needs. It’s true that the open-source Voron project, which is generally available in kit form, requires an average of over 30 hours for assembly, so Sovol, which offers a similar concept in pre-assembled form, should be of interest to the less courageous and especially to beginners interested in this machine structure.

Quad leveling system: Equipped with four independent Z motors, the SV08 ensures precise platen leveling thanks to the Quad-Gantry-Leveling (QGL) system. This system reduces printing errors and guarantees a perfectly flat printing surface.

Klipper firmware: By adopting Klipper firmware, the Sovol SV08 significantly improves printing speed and precision. Klipper enables the use of advanced features such as Input Shaping to minimize vibration, Pressure Advance for smoother prints and PID Tuning to stabilize nozzle and heat platen temperatures.

Other interesting Sovol SV08 features

Built-in camera: The SV08 is equipped with a built-in camera to monitor the printing process in real time. This feature is ideal for capturing time-lapses and ensuring that printing runs smoothly.

Ceramic heating blocks and AC heating platen: Thanks to a ceramic heating block and AC heating platen, the SV08 reaches high temperatures quickly, reducing preheating time by 70%. It can reach 300°C in no time, perfect for a wide variety of printing materials.

Linear rails on all axes: The Sovol SV08’s precision is enhanced by the use of linear rails on all its axes (4Z 2Y 1X), ensuring smooth, precise movements. These rails are essential for high quality prints, minimizing distortion and guaranteeing exact positioning of the print head.

Open-source slicing software

The Sovol SV08 uses OrcaSlicer, an open-source slicing software that optimizes nozzle paths for faster, more efficient printing. OrcaSlicer offers advanced features such as line-width adjustment, speed reduction for overhangs and segmented retraction, providing total control over the printing process.

Accessories and customization for your Sovol SV08

The base model priced at $579 doesn’t come with a cabinet, but Sovol offers it as an option (raising the price to $749), but you also have the possibility of taking other options such as the enhanced HDMI5 touchscreen. These options allow users to customize their printer to their specific needs and further enhance performance. The housing is essential for printing on certain types of material, such as ABS.

In conclusion, is the Sovol SV08 an interesting choice?

On paper, the Sovol SV08 is a very interesting 3D printer, combining robustness, precision and advanced features. I hope to have the opportunity to test this machine one day, even though I admit I’m a bit swamped at the moment.

Its high print volume, CoreXY technology and Klipper firmware make it a powerful tool for all types of user. Whether you’re a passionate hobbyist or a professional looking for the best print quality, the Sovol SV08 should meet your expectations and push back the limits of your creativity!
